About the Event

What is Battle of the Tech Bands?

Battle of the Tech Bands (BOTTB) is a community-run charity event where bands made up of technology professionals compete in a live music battle. All proceeds support Youngcare, an Australian charity helping young people with high care needs.

When and where are the events held?

We host events in Brisbane and Sydney throughout the year. Brisbane events are held at The Triffid in Newstead, and Sydney events at The Factory Theatre. Check our homepage for upcoming event dates.

How much does it cost to attend?

Ticket prices vary by event but typically range from $25-40. All ticket sales go directly to supporting Youngcare. Tickets are available through our event pages closer to each event date.

For Bands

How do I register a band?

To register a band, email us at info@bottb.com with your band name, company affiliation, and a brief description. Bands must have at least one member who works in the technology industry. We typically open registrations 3-4 months before each event.

What are the requirements to compete?

Bands must have at least one member working in the tech industry. There's no minimum or maximum band size. You'll need to prepare a 15-20 minute set of cover songs. Original music is allowed but cover songs tend to engage the crowd better.

Do we need our own equipment?

Basic backline (drums, bass amp, guitar amps) is provided. You'll need to bring your own guitars, bass, cymbals, snare, pedals, and any specialty instruments. A full equipment list is sent to registered bands before the event.

How are bands scored?

Every set is scored out of 100 points. A panel of judges scores four categories worth 20 points each — Song Choice, Performance, Crowd Vibe and Visuals — and the crowd vote is worth the remaining 20. Judge scores are averaged across the panel, and the band with the highest combined total wins.

How scoring works in detail

Voting & Scoring

How does crowd voting work?

Voting opens once the last band has finished playing, so everyone votes having seen every set, and it stays open for about 15 minutes. Scan the QR code displayed at the venue to cast your vote — one vote per person, per event. Stick around after the final set so you do not miss the window.

Can I change my vote?

Yes! You can change your vote at any time while the voting window is open. Simply visit the voting page again and select a different band. Only your final vote will be counted.

When are results announced?

Results are announced live at the venue immediately after voting closes. Full results including score breakdowns are published on our website within 24 hours of the event.

Charity & Support

What is Youngcare?

Youngcare is an Australian charity fighting to ensure young people with high care needs get the choice, control, and independence they deserve. They provide housing, support services, and advocacy for young Australians who might otherwise be left in aged care facilities.

How much has BOTTB raised for charity?

Since our first event in 2022, Battle of the Tech Bands has raised over $50,000 for Youngcare through ticket sales, donations, and sponsorships. Every dollar from ticket sales goes directly to the charity.

How can my company sponsor BOTTB?

We welcome corporate sponsors! Sponsorship packages include logo placement, VIP tickets, and recognition at the event. Contact us at info@bottb.com to discuss sponsorship opportunities.
