What is Battle of the Tech Bands?
Battle of the Tech Bands is a high-energy charity event where Australia's tech industry hits the stage for live music, friendly rivalry, and serious fun — all while raising funds for Youngcare. Each event brings together 5 tech companies, each forming a band from their own talented staff, to battle it out on stage.
Now in its fifth year, the event has become a favourite in the Brisbane tech calendar — and after a successful Sydney launch in 2025, we're adding Melbourne in 2026. Three cities. Three massive nights. Each hosted at premium venues that have become synonymous with Battle of the Tech Bands.
What started in 2022 with 130 people has grown fast. Brisbane hit highs of 450+ guests. Sydney brought close to 500 on its opening night in 2025, both pulling standout performances and crowds buzzing with energy.
Every dollar raised (with the exception of generous sponsorship from Jumbo Interactive) comes from ticket sales and personal contributions from band members, friends and family. The spirit of Battle of the Tech Bands has always been about celebrating human creativity — real people performing together to help young people with physical support needs through Youngcare.

Every young person deserves to live a young life.
Since 2005, Youngcare has provided choice, independence, and dignity for young people with complex and permanent physical disabilities. Despite the rising need, Youngcare receives no ongoing government funding — they rely solely on generous supporters.

Our Story
2022
The Beginning — Black Bear Lodge
It all started at Brisbane's iconic Black Bear Lodge in Fortitude Valley — a beloved venue known for its intimate atmosphere and rich musical heritage. Four bands took the stage: Jumbo, Rex, FoundU, and Teach Starter. Jumbo took home the inaugural trophy.
2023
Moving to The Triffid
The event outgrew its original home and moved to The Triffidin Newstead — one of Brisbane's premier live music venues. Five bands competed: Jumbo, Rex, CitrusAd, TechnologyOne, and FoundU.
2024
Growing Strong
The Triffid remained our home as five more bands battled it out. The tech community showed up in force, and the funds raised for Youngcare continued to grow.
2025
Expanding to Sydney
For the first time, Battle of the Tech Bands goes interstate! Brisbane continues at The Triffid, while Sydney joins the movement with its own event at The Factory Theatre. Ten bands across two cities — the biggest year yet.
2026
Three Cities
Melbourne joins the movement at The Howler, making it three cities, three massive nights. Brisbane returns to The Triffid and Sydney to The Factory Theatre — with some of Australia's biggest tech companies across all three lineups.
